The guy with the six-pack, who won the 2012 heat ManWatch competition, is none other than Boksburg singer and songwriter Kobus Muller, winner of Supersterre 2007.
Kobus Muller went from lanky to hunky within a year and is now the proud owner of a sculpted body with the title to confirm it. He has also added underwear modelling to his repertoire. “In July 2011 I sat down with biokineticist Hennie Fourie to work out a programme to gain weight,” says Kobus. “I weighed 58 kilograms and was too shy to take my shirt off. To motivate myself I set short- and long term goals; to take part in an underwear shoot after six months of training and to enter heat ManWatch a year later.” His hard work and determination paid off. “It was a rewarding journey. I now weigh 84 kilograms and still visit the gym seven days a week.”
His passion for singing started when he was a six-year-old learner at Volkskool Brakpan. “I sang a farewell song to the principal who was leaving, and when my song had all the ladies reaching for their tissues, I knew that it was what I wanted to do. Music had become food for my soul.” After his school career he opened his own recording studio at home which he had to close after winning Supersterre. “My breakthrough in the industry came the moment my name was called out. I have since recorded four albums with music from my own pen, including Alles En Meer which were nominated for a Huisgenoot Tempo Award. My most recent album is “a Night With Engelbert Humperdinck released by Nextereo Records.
Kobus believes that with great sacrifice comes a great reward. When he is not living out of a suitcase and traveling for shows, he loves to return to his parents Dirkie and Koos’ place, just outside Springs, where his two horses, Nikita and Spirit are kept. “I have a special love for animals. When I was younger I used to help out at pet shops and in return they would pay me in fish.” He has had many pets. “The apple of my eye is my best friend and dog for 15 years, Fudge,” he says, “I also have a miniature Yorkie called Dino and my two horses Spirit and Nikita.” To wind down, Kobus loves photography and web site- and graphic design. He enjoys nature and often visits Tshipise in Musina where he enjoys horseback riding and the beautiful scenery.
